Coffee as a Shared Language

UX & UI Design
Creative Direction

The Opportunity

Traditional specialty coffee apps often prioritize sleek minimalism over human connection, resulting in rigid, confusing interfaces that alienate non-expert coffee drinkers. The challenge was to bridge the physical warmth of a neighborhood cafe with a modern digital ecosystem—delivering a mobile-first experience that made browsing, custom coffee ordering, and community event discovery feel intuitive, inviting, and friction-free for a diverse local audience.

The Work

Co-leading the concept design process, I focused on visual architecture, design systems, and end-to-end interface execution. Grounded in comparative market research conducted with our UX strategist, I restructured the customization engine into a visual, step-by-step walkthrough to eliminate order friction. I engineered a robust, developer-ready design system featuring scalable UI components and WCAG-compliant tokens, ensuring production feasibility. Through interactive prototyping, our team refined critical transaction paths and integrated a dedicated digital hub for neighborhood events.

The Outcome

Though conceptual, the project provided a scalable model for unifying digital efficiency with authentic community connection. By eliminating transaction friction and deploying an approachable, sensory-driven UI language, the prototype demonstrated how a human-centric interface strategy can boost repeat order frequency, drive digital conversion, and deepen local brand loyalty.
